Veron’s importance to Estudiantes…

Veron suffered a pretty severe knee injury in Tuesday’s clash with Danubio and reports say he’ll miss the next two to three weeks. In that time, Estudiantes de la Plata have some important matches in the Argentine Clausura and the Copa Libertadores. They play at Racing Club this weekend and home to Veléz Sarsfield the following weekend. They face Lanús on April 2nd for the Libertadores.

He has been, without a doubt, pivotal for Estudiantes, particularly in the following matches; away 2-1 win at Danubio with 10 men, away 0-0 draw at River Plate on the following weekend for the Clausura and then this last week with a 2-0 win home to Danubio. Granted, he has only played two teams, but he’s playing like a man possessed and his vision on the field and long perfectly weighted passes are reminiscent of the old days when he played in Serie A with SS Lazio.

Will Estudiantes be able to pull out results that keep them in the lead in the Clausura and at the top of Group 2 in the Copa Libertadores? What will the scorelines be and will Veron’s absence be a reason for those losses?

Let me know what your thoughts are. I will be posting updates from tonight’s matches later today.
