San Lorenzo Show Their True Fighting Spirit.
By: Mauro | April 17th, 2008
With all the cards on the table, this was one of those matches that one approaches, in the words of Diego Simeone, “with a knife between the teeth.” Either team winning on this occasion was going to qualify for the next round. San Lorenzo had a few things going for them. They were at home, they had the option of drawing the match should they not be able to win and they had all their injured players back for this one. Like I said in my preview post, San Lorenzo are on a roll and I feel for poor Argentinos who have to play them on Sunday. San Lorenzo have never hoisted the Copa Libertadores and it’s become something of an obsession for the club.
The azulgranas controlled the match in it’s entirety. Andrés D’Allesandro, Gonzalo Bergessio and Andrés ‘Cuqui’ Silvera were all equally dangerous throughout the match. In the 16th minute, Bergessio scored, Vicente Rosales scored an own goal in the 35th minute and Silvera scored in the 78th minute off a keeper blooper to give San Lorenzo their much needed and authoritative win that at once qualifies them and eliminates Caracas FC.
I had this match going 3-1 to San Lorenzo, I guess I expected Caracas FC to show up a bit more than they did.
