Pele Going To Guadalajara For This One.
By: Mauro | April 8th, 2008Chivas de Guadalajara vs. Santos FC (Estadio Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico)

Not to be outdone by Maradona’s presence at the Atlas-Boca match tonight, Pele is supposed to be present at Santos’ match tomorrow night. Apparently, he’s going to be honored before the match for returning to Guadalajara because that’s where Pele won the World Cup with arguably the best football team ever. I thought the final match was played at the Azteca? Whatever.
Chivas look to attempt to leverage their home field advantage so that they can pick up some desperately needed points but only the ones in multiples of threes could help them now. Chivas sit at the bottom of Group 6 where it appears, after last night’s result, Cúcuta Deportivo have qualified for the next round. Qualification for Chivas is not a far stretch but it would require a huge debacle on Santos’ part. Also, to make maters worse, Chivas would have to travel to the high altitudes of Oruro. But hey, if Cúcuta can win there, couldn’t Chivas?
Bottom Line: Let’s be honest, Chivas have not made their fans proud during this tournament. They basically haven’t gotten the results they’ve needed. I think they could be the stronger of the three Mexican sides in the competition and this could be their wake up call. Also, Santos seem to have found a groove with a 7-0 drubbing over San Jose. My pick: 2-2 draw. Santos won’t be able to win and neither will Chivas. Chivas might be done after this one.
