One Foot Out, One Foot In.
By: Mauro | April 14th, 2008Danubio FC vs. Club Atletico Lanús (Estadio Jardines del Hipódromo, Montevideo, Uruguay)
Tape Delay, Tuesday the 15th on FSE @ 7pm

In one of the tighter groups, Danubio host Lanús in what is one of the deciding matches of the group. Lanús are edging Cuenca (who visit Estudiantes at the same time) by one point so they’ll want something from this match so they don’t have to depend on their cousins in La Plata to help them get through. Danubio would have to win by a most unlikely 6-0 and then hope for a draw or loss for Cuenca in the group’s other match to qualify over Lanús.
In the home leg of this round, Lanús was able to get a nice 3-1 win over Danubio with goals from their best players, Agustin Pelletieri, Lautaro Acosta and José Sand, all who should be healthy and ready to play tomorrow night. Lanús play-maker Diego Valeri should also make an appearance. All Lanús needs is a draw or a win to qualify for the next round, that is assuming that Cuenca don’t pull a coup and win over Estudiantes. In fact, neither team in the top two positions has their qualification guaranteed and both could be eliminated should some pretty unlikely results realize themselves.
Bottom line: Danubio are still the home team and while they are not a bad side, are not particularly good either, at least against the teams in this group. Lanús, on the other hand, are back to normal strength since the return of all their injured players and are looking for some points from this match. My pick: 1-1. I can’t pick the away team in this one since the away team statistically doesn’t always win even though they should in this one. Both teams get points, everyone’s happy, except maybe Cuenca.

[...] I had this one ending in a draw, away matches are tough to predict, the chances of this one happening were good… I was close and hinted at the win. Ah well, I suck. [...]
