LDU Quito-América: A Semi-Final Pre-Preview.
By: Mauro | June 2nd, 2008
LDU Quito are coming off a big win at the weekend against Olmedo in Ecuadorian league play where a team comprised of youngsters and substitutes won, 3-0. LDU are two points back from Deportivo Quito with 34 points. The rest of the field play again on Wednesday, LDU’s match against Macará was postponed due to the big Libertadores match on Tuesday against América.
América, meanwhile, are waiting to see how Ismael Rodríguez and Alejandro Arguello heal up from their respective injuries. Rodriguez is expected to replace Sebastián Dominguez who was suspended for Tuesday’s match due to a red card infraction. América and their coach have already arrived in Quito, Ecuador for their match against LDU.
The only story of note today is that Diego Cervantes has come out and said that he is uncomfortable in his current role with the club. It seems that ever since Juan Antonio Luna took over from Rubén Omar Romano, Cervantes has lost his starting spot on the team. Other than that, this is the only static from América’s camp.
A major advantage that América have over the other three teams in the tournament is that they are not playing any other league or cup at the same time as playing the Libertadores. So their players are better rested and have more time to focus on their opponents.
In any case, this was just a little update for the match later this week. The match begins at 6pm PST on Fox Sports Español on Tuesday the 3rd of June. The first leg ended 1-1 and this one is still wide open. None of that defensive wait and watch crap in these two semi-finals.
