Lanús awakens during homestand vs. Estudiantes.

By: Mauro | April 3rd, 2008

Lanús have been a victim of widespread injuries just after this competition began bringing to light how light their squad is on quality players. The most important players affected were main playmaker, Diego Valeri, as well as goalscorers José Sand and Lautaro Acosta. All three of which were critical in last night’s draw.

The first half was amazing, back and forth chances, and even a red card before half time, Agustin Alayes got sent off on his 2nd yellow. This is his 2nd red of the competition. At the end of the second half another red, but this time for Santiago Hoyos just before the end of the match. José Sand missed an opportunity to put his team up 15 minutes from time but Mariano Andújar was solid on the save and the ensuing shot from Sand to keep his team level.

3-3 was the final score, I didn’t get the number of goals right but I did get the result. This allows them both to add points to their totals and keep the two teams below them at bay. They exchange points and wait for the last round of matches in the group stage to decide who advances. Danubio host Lanús and Estudiantes host Cuenca in Group 2’s final matches on the 15th.
