Fluminense Tops Group 8, Advances With LDU Quito.
By: Mauro | April 18th, 2008In somewhat of a non-match, almost a friendly, Fluminense hosted LDU Quito in Rio last night with one thing in mind, get the first place in their group. And they did their damndest to beat the visiting squad with a respectable display of Brazilian football. Despite both squads fielding youngsters and substitutes, the first half was pretty decent. The second half, not so much. It seemed both teams were happy with the result and it ended up being a bit of a snooze-fest.
Cicero and Dario Conca were the most mobile and dangerous players for Flu and it’s no surprise that the first scoring opportunities came from these two players. It’s also no surprise that Cicero ended up scoring off a header in the 31st minute.
I had this match going 2-1 to Flu. The goal difference is the same, Flu was one goal better than LDU Quito today.
Flu and LDU Quito advance into the next round out of Group 8.
