Flamengo Ready for Andean Test.
By: Mauro | April 8th, 2008Club Sportivo Cienciano vs. Flamengo (Estadio Garcilaso de la Vega, Cuzco, Peru)

The big hullabaloo in this match was that of late, the Brazilian clubs have been trying to get out of having to send their teams up to the high altitude stadiums in Bolivia and Peru. For more on that topic click here. Only a single goal separates these two teams in the standings for second place. This makes this a huge match considering that both teams are expecting to qualify.
Flamengo seem to have found their form and that’s not good news for the Peruvians. Cienciano have gotten some decent results but I’m not sure they are ready to hold off Flamengo. What Cienciano do have in their favor is that Flamengo have yet to win an away match in this competition. Flamengo will look to Marquinhos, who scored a double against Nacional, to help deliver the three points. Cienciano will hope that their luck has not run out.
Bottom Line: Flamengo are are playing far better than Cienciano and have much more momentum coming into this match. It should be a bloodletting. My pick: But it won’t be. After all the match will be played at 3,300 meters above sea level. So, 2-1 to Flamengo (yes an away in). Cienciano will not be able to manage a win at home despite the high altitude.
