Estudiantes Should Make Short Work of Cuenca.
By: Mauro | April 14th, 2008Estudiantes de La Plata vs. Deportivo Cuenca (Estadio Unico, La Plata, Argentina)
Live, Tuesday the 15th, on FSE @ 5pm

In my opinion, this match will have far greater effect on who advances from this group than tomorrow’s other match. Estudiantes have Juan Sebastian Verón back in their line up and are playing on their ground in front of the red and white half of La Plata, all of which does not bode well for Cuenca.
Now while Cuenca have managed to get some decent home results, their away numbers are not so good. They are coming off a demoralizing away loss to Danubio and on top of that they need to win an away match with arguably the best (if not the best than the most influential) player in the Argentine Primera in Verón on the pitch. A win is not impossible, but after Verón’s heroics in Estudiantes’ match at the weekend, I find an away win here highly unlikely.
Bottom Line: Cuenca have gotten lucky with some of their earlier results including taking down Estudiantes at home, 1-0, in the first match of the group. Estudiantes, on the other hand, are running like a clock. One guy goes down and the guy subbing in off the bench picks up the slack like a champ. Just look at the work Benitez did in Verón’s place. My pick: 3-1 to Estudiantes. Estudiantes is through with this result and awaits their next opponent. Lanús’ own fate is in their hands with this result in Uruguay. A draw or a win get them through.
