Cruzeiro Flex Their Muscles at Home.
By: Mauro | April 4th, 2008With great matches from Guilherme, Wagner, Marquinhos Paraná and Bolivian Marcelo Moreno, who has 5 goals in the tournament so far, Cruzeiro, cruise to a 3-1 win over San Lorenzo. San Lorenzo mirrored Cruzeiro’s formation thinking it would help them win the ball in the center and keep the defenders busy. I’m going to go ahead and say this idea failed. Cruzeiro’s second and Silvera’s goal are worth checking out the video. Silvera had an inspired moment.
San Lorenzo are coming off the celebration of their 100 year anniversary of the founding of the club. They have an interesting history, check it out here. The mood was light and the fans, players and club directors were anticipating a good showing in this match. Cruzeiro were looking to simultaneously qualify for the next round and defend their grounds. The final score was 3-1 to Cruzeiro, who took advantage of some defensive errors on two of their goals.
With this win Cruzeiro lead the group with one final match for them on the road in the high altitudes of Potosi, Bolivia against a team that is already eliminated. I wouldn’t waste my time with that match, both sides would be going through the motions.
San Lorenzo on the other hand, MUST win their home stand against Caracas FC. A win puts them in the second round. A tie puts Caracas in the next round. I would make time for this one. Lots on the line and both teams should show up with their ‘A game.’ They’ll play it Wednesday the 16th. I’ll be sure to remind you about that one.
As always, check here for stats, matches and standings.
