Boca Run Out of Luck in Mexico.
By: Mauro | April 9th, 2008FC Atlas vs. Boca Juniors (Estadio Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico)
Boca came to Guadalajara in search of 3 points that would allow them to set their collective minds at ease. But they were denied.
I take a special pleasure in seeing Boca lose. It gives me a special spring in my step the following morning. But this one in particular, because their guest of honor, “El Diez” was present to watch his team run out of luck. FINALLY.
I’ve talked about the lucky bounces and their luck at having goal keepers who manage to bobble the ball when it’s lobbed to them. Leandro Gracian had a one on one opportunity that he sent wide. Martin Palermo had the miss of the match (possibly the tournament) late in the first half. And poor defending on their part got the best of them in the end. Atlas may not have been the better team on the park yesterday, but they were able to put the ball in the back of the net more times and at the end of the 90 minutes, that’s what matters.
This win complicates things for Boca and magnifies tomorrow’s match in Chile, to say the least. Should Colo Colo win, they leapfrog Boca in the standings forcing them to win their last match, which should be a problem since it’s at home where the luck abounds. But, Colo Colo are also at home in their last match against Atlas, who have not won either of their away matches. Boca no longer depend on themselves to qualify.

Luck? it’s got nothing to do with it.
Boca were horrible and played without Ibarra, Paletta, Ledesma and Riquelme.
I’m glad you feel happy about it. Enjoy.Posted from

I have to say I’m more interested in River winning than Boca losing, but seeing how Boca has dominated this competition for so long, it does ease the pain a bit.
Doesn’t make me feel too good about Argentine teams this year.

Nope, right you are Christian. The Argentine teams were a flop this year with the exception of Estudiantes who look solid despite not having Veron in their line up. I was expecting Lanús, San Lorenzo and Arsenal to come hot out of the gates but they’ve been luke warm to cold at best for differing reasons. Disappointing.
And I mentioned Boca’s luck because they do seem to get quite a few bounces go their way and poor defensive tackles clearances and whatnot to fall right at their feet and yesterday they had all those things but weren’t able to capitalize. It was just nice to see the universe’s equilibrium returned, even if it was only for those 90 minutes.
