Atletico and Audax Do Themselves No Favors.
By: Mauro | April 4th, 2008In a group where everyone can still qualify for the next round, albeit with some help from others in the group, Atletico let a victory slip from their grasp as Audax take advantage of a poor defensive clearance and Fabián Orellana brings his team level. 18 minutes earlier Carlos Villagra scored, what could be one of the goals of the week, off a beautiful pass from Sergio Galvan Rey. This result helps neither team qualify but keeps them in the hunt for the second round. Neither team has impressed me in this group. This Atletico Nacional team, who has been a shadow of itself since the 3-0 win over Sportivo Luqueño, is the only team in this group who has registered a clear win. Group leaders Sao Paulo, have also been disappointing. They would not have the group lead had they not had the talent of Adriano to save them from a few compromising positions.
With this result, Atletico have only 4 points from 4 matches and only have two big away matches to get something from. Now, away wins are tough and I’ll venture to say that their last match against Sao Paulo will be pretty freaking huge. I’ll be sure to remind you of that one when it rolls around. It’ll be played on the 23rd.
Audax also have 4 points from 4 matches and have one home and one away match left. They host Sao Paulo on the 10th, Sao Paulo will be looking for the points to help them qualify, Audax will be looking to hold them off. This one is next Thursday and should be worth the time.
