By: Mauro | April 10th, 2008Arsenal de Sarandi vs. Fluminense FC (Estadio Julio H. Grondona, “El Viaducto”, Sarandi, Argentina)
Arsenal hosted Fluminense last night with a squad made up of second string players. Arsenal fans must have been hoping that Gustavo Alfaro could have played a match with these players earlier. In any case, Arsenal had no chance of qualifying for the next round regardless of tonight’s result. Arsenal have one more match, away to Libertad, to close their participation in the cup.
Fluminense came with nothing to lose as well. Regardless of the result they are still qualified for the next round. After giving up two goals, Fluminense began to play rough and with 17 minutes to go, Thiago Neves was sent off and left his team with only 10 men. Flu host LDU Quito in their last match. Neither team have anyhing to play for since both are qualified and may make an effort to mak the match interesting should one of them want the honor of first place in the group.
