Arsenal Get One More Glory Before Focusing on the Argentine Clausura.

By: Mauro | April 17th, 2008

Libertad hosted Arsenal one of the later matches last night. While there was not much to play for here, neither team wanted to walk away with another loss. I did not watch this match for obvious reasons and to add to that both sides decided to field second string teams.

Juan Bottaro scored first for Arsenal in the 7th minute. Nelson Cuevas (ex-River Plate among others) scored to bring Libertad level in the 22nd minute. In the second half, Martin Yacuzzi scored in the 73rd minute to give Arsenal the win and some dignity before they say goodbye to this tournament.

With this win, Arsenal can use it as a starting point to begin a new string of wins or at very least more positive results than losses. Libertad can focus on the Paraguayan league for now in hopes of earning another berth into next year’s edition.

I had this one going 2-1 to Libertad. I figured the away match rule would weigh heavier than it did. What? I did guess the scoreline at least. Coulda happened to anyone.

Check the CONMEBOL website for final Group 8 standings and results.
