Pedro Sarmiento’s boys are the current leaders of the group and in order to keep that lead the coach left Colombia last Friday with 12 of his players so that they could acclimatize themselves to the high altitude of Oruro.
The Peruvians and Bolivians are getting little backing for them to continue to play in their high altitude stadiums. I believe that the Brazilians are whining the loudest. But we’ll get to that later this week. Cúcuta have surprisingly ended up at the top of their group and in unbeaten fashion to boot. Included in the 12 players, were starlets Matias Urbano and Macnelly Torres. Cúcuta look to repeat the luck they had in Guadalajara.

San José on the other hand, have more points in this competition than I expected them to have at this point. They are coming off the worst loss in the cup so far, a 0-7 destruction at the hands of Mauricio Molina and his buddies from Santos FC. Add to that, the 4- draw they had to come back from against local Bolivian side, The Strongest. San José hope to repeat their last home stand where they beat Santos FC 2-1 with a late winner.
Bottom Line: Normally, I would say that Cúcuta will take all three points but not only is this an away match but it’s played at an abnormally high altitude. Cúcuta will be lucky to get a draw. My pick: This is going to end up, 1-1.
