Late Adriano header gives Sao Paulo all 3 points.

Now don’t get me wrong. Adriano did exactly what I had said he should do if he wanted to get back into Inter’s good graces. He basically saved Sao Paulo from earning themselves another draw and to be completely honest, I’m disappointed in this team. I expected them to do much better in this competition. And still, they haven’t faced a real big gun team yet. I had picked them as a contender for the title, I’m not sure they are better than their Brazilian cousins, Flamengo or Fluminense, in this competition.

With that said, Sportivo was able to hold Sao Paulo who lacked some creativity. On the other hand, when you have a team like Sportivo playing 10 men behind the ball, it isn’t easy to break through. Still, Sao Paulo failed to impress and needed a late winner to decide things. Again, Adriano’s header was a thing of beauty but too little for this big Brazilian team.

This win gives them the lead in Group 7 with two matches left to play and still a lot on the line. Sao Paulo play Audax in Chile and then host Atletico Nacional in their last match of the group stage. This group is still up in the air, especially if Audax manage an away win at Atletico Nacional tonight.
